Online Retail
I have worked in a variety of companies including banking, insurance, public sector, utilities and retail but I have to say retail is my passion and the main focus of my consultancy. I enjoy helping both established retail companies, online retailers only (pureplays), multi-channel retailers as well as small business startups. Of the 12 years in e-commerce, I have spent 10 of these in the retail sector therefore you can understand my passion! I can help online retail companies increase the profitability of their business.
My online retail e-commerce roles
I worked for nearly 6 years at NBown Group in Manchester helping drive forward the online retail operation across a multitude of trading websites such as Simply Be, Jacamo, Marisota, Figleaves and Premier Man. My role there was primarily but not limited to online acquisition – ie getting new customers to sign up and order online.
In my time there, I set up and launched a variety of recruitment channels including affiliates, comparison search, display, retargetting, facebook etc. When I joined, online penetration was around 15% and upon leaving, this figure was closer to 60%. My time in this company was invaluable in giving me the best tools possible with which to see how a heavyweight retailer really does trade and I learned a lot here.
As well as learning how to really build a customer recruitment program, I was part of many cross functional projects as online penetration increased – so did the complexity of the recruitment model and the need to understand how different recruitment channels interacted with one another and how attribution of sales played a part in the overall recruitment mix.
Since leaving NBrown group I have worked for 4 additional retailers at Head of Online level – with responsibility for the full online operation including recruitment, site trading, site development, social, customer services, CRO testing, ECRM and ultimately the Web P/L.
Online Retail & E-Commerce Consultancy
I have worked with a number of small retailers over the years in a consultancy and advisory capacity helping them before launch and in addition post launch – helping them grow their online offering and customer base. My focus has been helping to define a strategy and make sure that their online offering is optimized to ensure maximum on-site conversions.
For me it is important that I sit down with business owners and explain to them clearly and succinctly what my philosophy is on building / growing their brand and how I can help them achieve that. This will mean the importance of never sitting still – always be testing and introducing new functionality to your site in order to improve those conversions.
I also help online retailers and small businesses build up a new customer recruitment model – advising them what channels would be good for them, how to set up new channels and how best to maximize the ROI from those channels
