Google’s checkout – imagine if this was your website..?

To understand the importance of good usability on your website when it comes to making it easy for your customers to actually buy goods, Google produced this fantastic video a few years ago. It perfectly sums up the frustration we can feel when trying to buy online and comparing the online hurdles with the equivalent if you experienced in a supermarket.
All this guy wanted to do was buy a loaf of bread but he continually comes up against obstacle after obstacle – in real life the more obstacles you place in the checkout process then the greater the likelihood you will lose that customer forever – after all who wants to spend 10 minutes trying to negotiate a poor checkout when you know that retailer X has the same product and you can buy fairly easily?
One of the reasons Google produced the video was to highlight the benefit of using and understanding some of the key reports in Analytic s such as setting up goals or using the multi-channel funnels to track the checkout dropout from each stage of your checkout process. I will touch on this on a later blog posting but in the meantime just have a look at the video and see if you recognize any of these frustrations….
